Roeland Otten, The Netherlands

Roeland Otten (NL) graduated at the Design Academy Eindhoven in 1999 and founded his design studio in Rotterdam one year later.
He works with a ‘conceptual’ approach in different fields of media: from graphic design to new media, from product design to architectonic installations in public space and events. Roeland Otten is a provoker and an innovator, never shy of looking for new ways to tell a story and making a statement.
ABChairs is an alphabet consisting of a series of 26 chairs and stools to form words with, designed by Roeland Otten. During SDW, prototypes are presented for the first time abroad. The prototypes are made from lacquered MDF. At the moment, these pieces are manufactered (upon request) in limited editions. Otten hopes however to find a manufacturer who could produce them in recycled plastic so that the seats can be used in outdoor applications and larger interiors. A smaller version for children is in the pipeline.
