Jade Folawiyo (1987) graduated from BA Product Design, Central Saint Martins in 2010. Living and growing up in London her family originates from Nigeria and her work brings together her experience of two cultures. She is inspired by the way in which di¬erent culures share ideas and practices and often looks at mixing traditional and contemporary in uences. Her work focuses on accessories for the home produced in ceramic, glass or metal with a key focus on working with local artisans and reinterpreting traditional techniques.
Having taken time to work in Italy from 2008-2009 as a Product Designer for Fabrica's Design department. She has since been selected to be a Designer in Residence with the Design Museum in 2011, producing a collection of Metal Lampshades. Her Lampshades have since been included in the collection of pieces selected to showcase Six decades of art and design in London to celebrate The Queen's Diamond Jubilee at Valentine House earlier this year.
Her first works were produced by Secondome Edizioni design gallery in Rome. She is now working on producing her own pieces alongside her commissioned work and is currently working for Vista Alegre on new products in Porcelain and Glass in Portugal.
