YOUNG BALKAN DESIGNERS

Young Balkan Designers is a regional gathering of talents in the sphere of industrial design which the Mikser Organization has launched with the aim of identifying, developing and promoting, on the international plane, the creative potential of the Balkans, with a special emphasis on the restoration of multi-cultural cooperation in the region.

Evolving from Mikser’s annual exhibition of talented domestic designers entitled the Ghost Project, the Young Serbian Designers initiative was launched in 2009 with an idea to summarize, in ten works, what the local design scene has best to offer to the world market. The first two editions of the project focused on a national selection of works presented at the prestigious Milan Furniture Fair where they largely caught the attention of the professional public and global media, and then at the Mikser Festival where they aroused the interest of domestic producers. In less than two years, the initiative has transcended Serbia’s borders to become a recognizable platform for identifying, supporting and exchanging young designers from the entire region.
The international success of the Young Serbian Designers project in 2009 and 2010, as well as the huge interest of young designers from around the region to participate in Mikser competitions, lead to the natural evolution of the project, from natinal to regional (South-Eastern Europe) selection of design.
The Young Balkan Designers constributes to renewal of regional networks and brings about cooperation and taking responsibility for creation of a better business, social and political context for tallented individuals nad progressive industry in teh Balkans.
The Young Balkan Designers competition now represents a true mobilizing power of new generations of designers, from Vienna to Athens, offering to producers a unique dynamic database of creative resources. The evolution of the project poses a fresh challenge this year. After three years of successful global promotion in Milan and presentations at leading design events in the region, the ideas gathered around the Young Balkan Designers project will become real products, which will be ensured by the Mikser Organization that launches its own line of products entitled Mikser Design. Young Balkan Designers will be one of the collections of Mikser’s new design label signed by authors from South-Eastern Europe.
